Lesley Braithwaite

Couple and Individual Counsellor

How long will it take?

It is difficult to say how long someone will need to continue counselling, though I rarely work with people for less than 12 sessions and many find it helpful to continue for much longer. My psychodynamic training means I do not aim to provide a quick fix and believe that issues that have been problematic over years may take time to explore and understand. It is something we can discuss at our first session and review at regular intervals. You can decide you do not want to continue at any time.

What will it cost?

An initial telephone discussion is free. If you choose to come for an initial session we may need up to an hour and a half for me to find out a bit about you (both of you if you are coming for couple work), to start to understand what has brought you and for you to experience what it would be like to work with me. I charge £50 a session for couples, £40 for individuals. Ongoing sessions are 60 minutes charged at the same rate.

Cancellation with less than 24 hours notice will be charged at the full rate.

How do I start?

You can telephone and speak to me, email or leave a confidential message and I will get back to you to talk about what you might want and answer any questions so you can decide if you want to meet for an initial session. If you do decide to take up ongoing counselling we will agree a regular time each week and may decide on an initial period which we can then review. It can be very difficult to take the initial step to contact a therapist but many people who have done so find it enormously helpful so I hope you will feel able to get in touch and find out if it could be of benefit to you.
