Lesley Braithwaite

Couple and Individual Counsellor

My name is Lesley Braithwaite and I am a qualified psychodynamic couple therapist. I trained at the Tavistock Centre for Couple Relationships (TCCR) and worked with them for several years. I am also a qualified social worker and have developed my understanding of the difficulties that can be experienced in the many and varied relationships in which we are all involved through long experience of life and work.

Weekly sessions offer an opportunity to bring any issues you want to discuss, to explore present patterns and past experiences. As a psychodynamic counsellor I tend not to offer advice or solutions, but to think with you both about your situation, concerns and relationship as we try together to understand what is going on for you and how things might be improved. This is a learning process that can sometimes be painful as well as freeing you up from unhelpful patterns of behaviour. The overwhelming experience of most people is that they feel they have gained something really valuable from the process.

I have a small practice of individual clients who work long term with me to understand difficult feelings and painful and unwanted patterns of behaviour and explore deeper, unconscious processes and make links and connections to develop more helpful ways of thinking and behaving in the present and for the future.

I also offer reflective consultation for other counsellors who may work only occasionally with couples.

I am a member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and work within their ethical framework. I am also a member of the British Society for Couple Psychotherapists and Counsellors (BSCPC)

Based in Frome, Somerset, I work from a quiet, pleasant and confidential consulting room with a separate entrance at my home near the town centre.
